MISSION OBJECTIVE:

Decrypt Caesar cipher encoded messages to breach the system. Each successful decryption increases your security clearance level.

GETTING STARTED:

STEP 1: Build your target database by adding words manually or click "LOAD PRESET TARGETS" for quick setup.

STEP 2: Select your difficulty level (this determines the cipher shift amount).

STEP 3: Configure timer (30-600 seconds) based on your skill level.

STEP 4: Click "INITIALIZE PROTOCOL" to begin the breach.

DIFFICULTY LEVELS:

🟢 EASY [SHIFT: 1]
Each letter is shifted forward by 1 position in the alphabet.
Example: "IFMMP" → shift back 1 → "HELLO"
A→B, B→C, Z→A

🟡 MEDIUM [SHIFT: 3]
Each letter is shifted forward by 3 positions (Classic Caesar Cipher).
Example: "KHOOR" → shift back 3 → "HELLO"
A→D, B→E, Z→C

🟠 HARD [SHIFT: 5]
Each letter is shifted forward by 5 positions.
Example: "MJQQT" → shift back 5 → "HELLO"
A→F, B→G, Z→E

🔴 EXTREME [ROT13]
Each letter is shifted by 13 positions (middle of alphabet).
Example: "URYYB" → shift back 13 → "HELLO"
A→N, N→A (symmetric cipher)

HOW TO DECRYPT:

1. Look at the encrypted message displayed on screen

2. Use the cipher reference matrix below to help visualize shifts

3. Mentally shift each letter BACKWARDS by the difficulty amount

4. Type the decrypted word in lowercase

5. Press SUBMIT or hit ENTER to check your answer

DECRYPTION EXAMPLES:

EASY: "XPSME" → Move each letter back 1 → "WORLD"

MEDIUM: "VHFUHW" → Move each letter back 3 → "SECRET"

HARD: "HFWXWNYD" → Move each letter back 5 → "SECURITY"

EXTREME: "CERNPX" → Move each letter back 13 → "BREACH"

SCORING SYSTEM:

• Base Points: 100 points per successful decryption

• Time Bonus: +10 points for every 10 seconds remaining

• Streak Bonus: +50 points per consecutive success in your streak

• Total Points = 100 + (Time Remaining ÷ 10 × 10) + (Streak × 50)

LEVEL PROGRESSION:

• Level up every 3 successful decryptions in a row

• Your Security Level is displayed in the top-right corner

• Higher levels unlock greater access to the mainframe

• Breaking your streak resets it to 0, but keeps your score

WINNING STRATEGIES:

✓ Start with EASY to learn the pattern, then increase difficulty

✓ Use the cipher reference matrix to visualize letter positions

✓ Work quickly to maximize time bonus points

✓ Maintain your streak for massive bonus multipliers

✓ Add shorter words (4-6 letters) for faster decryption practice

✓ Remember: Speed + Accuracy = High Score

⚠ BREACH CONSTRAINTS:

• You have 3 ATTEMPTS per decryption session

• Timer countdown is continuous - work fast!

• Wrong answers reduce attempts and can break your streak

• Time expiration = Mission Failed

• Failed missions reset your streak to 0

PRO TIPS:

🔹 The alphabet wraps around: Z+1=A, A-1=Z

🔹 Capital letters in display = easier to track positions

🔹 Type in lowercase for your answer

🔹 Use ENTER key for quick submission

🔹 Sound effects indicate success/failure
